Where the figures on From Ashes come from, how a claim gets checked before it is published, and how often each guide is reviewed.

What we draw on

Provider pricing and specifications
Taken from the provider's own published pricing at the date of review, in the currency they quote. We record the date because memorial pricing moves, and a stale figure is worse than none.
Regulators and official guidance
Rules on scattering, transporting and exporting ashes come from the relevant national authority — for example the UK Environment Agency, the US Environmental Protection Agency and TSA, and provincial regulators in Canada.
Crematoria and funeral directors
Practical questions — how much ash a cremation produces, what containers are used, how collection works — are checked against working professionals rather than inferred.
Manufacturing and materials
Claims about how a process physically works (carbon extraction for diamonds, glass annealing, resin curing) are checked against technical documentation from the people who do it.

How a claim gets checked

  1. A claim is drafted with its source recorded alongside it.
  2. Figures are checked against the primary source, not a secondary article repeating it.
  3. Anything that cannot be verified is cut, or published with an explicit note that it is an estimate.
  4. Guides are reviewed on a rolling basis; the review date appears on each article.
  5. Reader corrections are investigated and, where correct, applied with a note of what changed.
